I know I haven't been posting regularly - honestly, saying over and over "well, Justin ALMOST had a job, but then something happened" was getting a little depressing. But now I'm proud to say that Justin has a job!
It happened because of a joke.
I work for The Potter's School as an administrative assistant. I was chatting with my supervisor a couple days ago and she mentioned how busy this time of year was and that they were hoping to hire some extra help. I jokingly said that Justin was a good guy and a couple minutes later she said that her supervisor wanted Justin to e-mail him some stuff. Justin did so, and they talked yesterday morning. He should be starting work doing some technical things for TPS very soon!
It's a perfect position for him because (1) he doesn't have to leave the house during his semi-frequent pain filled days, (2) we can move almost anywhere we want to, (3) it's exactly the type of job he was hoping to do originally, and (4) he can help me figure all this technology stuff out.
Not only will he have a somewhat regular monthly income (hours come and go, but at least it's something each month), but he's been hanging up tutoring fliers galore. We had a conversation with someone at the chemistry department at UAH a few weeks ago and have gotten two students via her recommendations thus far, including one today.
I always like it when someone calls and says, "My son needs two hours of tutoring each week. Can we pay a month in advance?"
In addition, Justin has been working on a flash card project for my dad. That paid for most of our monthly bills. =)
I've also been working a ton because it's the busy time of year, as I may have mentioned before. =P I'm definitely kinda slow with the system but I think I'm getting a better handle of it each day, and since what I do will overlap a lot of what Justin will do, that should help us learn a little faster. We've become good at the quick transfer of information.

On a somewhat related note, TPS is still enrolling! I would recommend that everyone should go check out their course listing. There are quite a few classes open to adults and all the prices are very reasonable. (It's great for those of us on a budget, too, because the admin is very open to working with you on a payment plan.)
Justin's taking Computer Programming in Python this year. Needless to say, he's very excited! Now, if only his books would show up...
Woohoo! I'm very excited! It sounds like it's a perfect job for you both. Yippee!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so happy!
ReplyDeleteAnd you'll get to be together a lot, which is important, I wish I could work nearer to Andre!
So glad things have straightened out for you guys! You deserve it!
