Last year, we stayed home for Thanksgiving. Justin's mom came over, along with his two bosses at the time. We did our very first turkey and fixed all the food. :) There was a huge learning curve, but thankfully, everything came out just fine.

This year, we spent Thanksgiving with Justin's dad, step-mom, and one-year-old baby brother in Atlanta, GA. It was a quick trip, but we had a good time. We brought the turkey, chocolate pie, pumpkin pie, and whipped cream, and helped Justin's step-mom do the rest of the food.
It was tricky bringing an uncooked turkey, two pies, and cream on a 4 hour trip - maybe next time I'll volunteer to bring food that doesn't need to be refrigerated!

Justin had a wonderful time getting to know his baby brother. They seemed to bond instantly and played every waking moment. We brought his Christmas presents with us, and he really liked opening them. We bought him a hippo-shaped piggy bank, two medium sized bouncy balls, and a gray stuffed bear with a white patch on one eye. He loved all his presents! His face lit up when he saw what was in the packages - he also enjoyed tearing up the tissue paper. :)

There was a huge sale on sweet potatoes right before Thanksgiving - $0.12 per pound! I don't remember them being that inexpensive last year, though I may have just missed it. I bought around thirty pounds (whew!). Needless to say, we'll be eating a
lot of sweet potatoes in the next few weeks.
This morning, I baked us each a sweet potato (oven temp: 350; time: 50 minutes), cut them in half, put a little butter and a dollop of (homemade :) ) whipped cream. I topped it with shredded pork roast from the freezer and sprinkled salt and fresh ground pepper on top. It was so good! We'll definitely be repeating that meal.
What did you do for Thanksgiving? What are your favorite Thanksgiving foods? :)
Awwww, what a cutie! Justin and his brother seemed to be having fun!
ReplyDeleteThat's an excellent deal on sweet potatoes! If you eat that many are you going to turn orange like your cousin? lol
