So I have a problem, and like usual, it involves laundry.
I do my laundry over the weekends, and this weekend, I realized that all my clean clothes smelled like the stereotypical old people nursing home smell. I sniffed around in the laundry area and found out that my washer smells... musty.
I don't know what causes something to smell musty - is it mildew or mold or old air or...? I sprayed down the washer with a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water, hoping to get rid of any mold or mildew, but it hasn't seemed to help all that much.
Have you ever run into this problem before? If so, how do you clean your washer? For that matter, should I be cleaning it on a regular basis? I always assumed that since clothes get clean in there, so does the washer, but is that wrong?
Anyone who can solve the mystery gets five gold stars!
I've never cleaned my washers unless something really grungy has left a ring on the inside. It could be leaking and the water is getting moldy and/or mildewy. Have you tried pulling it out to see? That would be my first guess.
ReplyDeleteOurs did the same thing...
ReplyDeleteI don't know what cause was, but soon after that started the electrical systems in the machine started going haywire, so my guess is a leak inside the machine.
We haven't gotten ours fixed yet, but I will let you know if that was indeed the problem.
Also, ours is a front loader, is yours a front loader or top loader?
